Will this famous father and daughter duo stump the celebrity-challenged “What’s My Line?” panel? Watch and see!
As labeled on the video and uncovered at the end of the show, the mystery twosome is well-known ventriloquist, Edgar Bergen (sans Charlie McCarthy), and his daughter, movie/TV actor Candice Bergen. Age-wise, Candice is somewhere between 19 and 21 years old; some years before she appears in her more memorable roles. Very youthful and seemingly at ease in front of the camera; in fact, both guests seem to enjoy their ruse at the expense of the panelists. At this stage of his career, Edgar, was involved mostly in television, appearing four times on this program.
TV’s primetime “What’s My Line?” was the longest-running game show in the U.S., broadcasting from 1950 to 1967, and then from 1968 to 1975! Moderated by John Charles Daly, it sported a regular cast of celebrities with some turnover throughout its run. Panelists, sometimes blindfolded, were tasked with asking questions in order to deduce the guest’s occupation.
These little TV gems are the perfect venue in which to discover celebrities in all stages of their careers!
