Anyone want to wrestle a microchip away from this itty-bitty insect? Not me! Our wood (or heathland) ant looks a bit serious; maybe it was the experience of being scanned by an electron microscope and magnified somewhere between 20 and 22,000,000 times!
Well, to make up for that, this little creature has the honor of being on the cover of “Microcosmos,” a 2010 book of SEM (scanning electron microscope) photos by London-based science author, Brandon Broll. Along with our ant buddy, photos of human body parts, flowers, and food, to name a few, grace the book’s 205 full-color images. Happy scanning!
